Individual Life Insurance

Reasons to buy insurance are different for everyone. But the decision to purchase insurance is, at its core, all about providing financial security for yourself and the ones you care about. Learn why life insurance is important, and who needs it. Financial Advisor, Nick Liskey shares his personal experience with clients and just how vital life insurance can be to an individual.

“I have heard that life insurance is sold, not bought. This can often leave an unsavory taste in people’s mouths as to the perception of people that sell life insurance. Most people don’t wake up in the morning, wanting to think about life insurance or their spouse or partner passing away prematurely. Here at the Healy Group, we sell life insurance because we know that the alternative is dangerous. When I first started as a financial planner, I knew life insurance was important part of it, however, I didn’t know that it would affect my personal life, and some of the lives of those I cared about.

I helped a family that had one child, was a current teacher and over time, transitioned into being a fireman in our local city. When he got diagnosed with brain cancer a few years ago in his late 30s, the family had multiple children at that point. I remember the last time I spoke to him in my driveway, he hugged me and said thank you for taking care of my family and I know that you’ll continue to do the same. I wrote the policy in 2008 and paid the death claim 11 years later. I’ve continued to keep my promise to him.

Another close friend started financial planning with Healy Financial and his wife did not work outside of the home. Since they had three young children, our plan showed that a stay-at-home parent still needed life insurance protection because of all the duties that fell on her shoulders. When she passed away suddenly during the Christmas season a few years ago, it was devastating, but did not financially ruin them.

Life insurance does not bring people back from the dead. My experience allowed both families to take time off as they needed, grieve as they needed and not have a financial worry through the process. I know therapy, counseling and other support that they have will continue for the rest of their days because losing someone you love is not easy. Our hope is to assist with the healing process.”
