Receiving IRS letters can be scary. It is not unusual to have people refuse to open the letters. Others may open the letters, but be overwhelmed and not know what to do. These people hope the situation will just go away. The IRS does not go away though. This is where Healy Tax can help.
A woman reached out to Healy Tax one day. Her husband, a retired military veteran, handled all financial matters for the family. His memory had declined due to Alzheimer’s, however, and income tax returns were not filed for three years. The IRS produced a substitute return for the oldest year, assessed taxes, and added penalties and interest. IRS letters ensued. Each one more threatening.
This woman became a Healy Tax client after attempts to resolve the situation on her own were unsuccessful. Healy Tax obtained tax transcripts from the IRS. We advised client on finding documents that would reduce taxes. We then brought the client into compliance by filing all missing Federal and state income tax returns.
Next, we mailed letters to the IRS requesting that failure-to-file and failure-to-pay penalties be removed, along with the corresponding interest. After many months of correspondence and calls, our requests were granted. All penalties were cancelled for multiple years. Through the efforts of Healy Tax, our client was now up to date on all tax filings and no longer owed thousands of dollars of penalties. Her peace of mind was priceless.
